Brangelina divorce timing is a tabloid magazine nightmare

The final meltdown of the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie marriage, coming on a Tuesday morning, is a nightmare for the celebrity magazines that have breathlessly chronicled Brangelina’s ups and downs.

Each of the titles goes to press by Monday night. Under normal circumstances, the print mags couldn’t exploit the explosive and popular news story until Sept. 28, when next week’s issues start to hit newsstands.

OMG! They could make up and get back together by then — which one title may very well report.

Only Bauer Media’s In Touch lucked out with a story on last week’s cover, which is still on sale with a screaming headline: “Brad & Angelina: $400M Divorce.”

Rival People isn’t taking the nightmare circumstances lying down. Time Inc. plans to publish next week’s issue early and hustle it onto newsstands this week. It was crashing the issue on Tuesday night.

“Our audience is deeply connected to the couple,” a People spokeswoman told Media Ink. “Every scenario of their life together is fascinating. We watched them fall in love on screen. We watched a love triangle play out when they got together. We watched them build a large family.”

Us Weekly, OK! Magazine and Star refused to comment on their Brangelina plans — but said the Hollywood couple was not on their covers this week.
