Daniel R. Bernard is a partner in the firm and member of the Trusts & Estates Department. Daniel focuses his practice on estate planning, trust and estate administration, estate tax planning, business succession planning, and estate litigation, with an emphasis on estate planning for snowbirds.

Daniel is admitted to the New York bar, the Florida bar, and the New Jersey bar. This affords Daniel the opportunity to represent clients in all three states. Daniel’s combination of admission to the New York bar and Florida bar in particular is especially useful to clients who split their time between New York and Florida. Daniel is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court.

Daniel has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal and Newsday in articles related to estate planning and taxation issues. Daniel has been a guest on the “Ask the Attorney” show, the “Dead Celebrity Podcast,” and the “Law You Should Know” radio show and podcast to discuss estate planning for snowbirds.

Daniel holds an advanced law degree, a Master of Laws in Taxation, from New York University School of Law. This allows Daniel to better assist clients with advanced estate tax planning.

Daniel received his Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers School of Law-Newark, where he served as the Senior Managing Editor of the Rutgers Law Record. While in law school, Daniel worked as a student attorney in the Rutgers Federal Tax Clinic and interned in the Tax Court of New Jersey and the Morris County Surrogate Court. After completing law school, Daniel served a one-year clerkship with the Honorable Barbara C. Stolte in the New Jersey Middlesex County Family Court.

Prior to law school. Daniel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Temple University, where he double majored in finance and economics. Daniel has had two legal papers published, one on a topic of professional interest entitled Non-Custodial Parents’ Right to Their Children’s College Records, 40 Rutgers L. Rec. 48 (2012). Daniel’s other publication was on a topic of personal interest, the NFL, entitled The NFL’s Stance on Gambling: A Calculated Contradiction, 4 UNLV Gaming L.J. 273 (2013).
