Chevrolet introduced the powerful 327ci V8 was introduced this year and would stay around for the next seven model years. The exterior chrome trim highlighting the side cove area disappeared leaving only color-matched paint and a single louver as the new accent. 1962 would also be the final year for exposed front headlights, a solid rear axle, an external rear trunk, along with, the option of a power top. Things were about to change for the next generation of Corvette, which is why the 1962 model remains one of the most coveted designs to have in collections around the world!

The particular example carries a unique ownership history that includes writer, David E. Davis. Mr. Davis was employed by Campbell-Ewald writing automotive advertising copy for Chevrolet, coining the very successful campaign phrase “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet!” With a knack for always expressing his honest opinion, he skillfully crafted automobile journalism as we know it today. An adept story teller by nature, his written contributions were found in Car & Driver as early as 1962 before rising to editor-in-chief of the magazine, and later Automobile, a magazine he founded in 1986. Davis has been an instrumental component to the automobile industry, as what he published likely played a role in the consumer arena.
Davis was also an avid driver of his own collection, and after competing in the California Mille, his disappointing finish prompted his interest in owning something more balanced and powerful in comparison to his 1957 Alfa Romeo. With the help of the GM Heritage Center, this very Corvette was sourced as a minimally restored specimen with a fantastic original presentation. He would own and enjoy it for a few years before it would pass on to a new collector in 2008. At that time, the car would receive some enhancements to include new model correct steel wheels and polished hubcaps, a new black soft top from Al Knoch Interiors, and fully restored hardtop by marque specialist Auto Entec of Cresent, PA. Its originality would earn the Award of Distinction acknowledgement in the American Sport Car class at the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles in Canton, OH in 2009. A very special Fuelie indeed!
Under its most recent Palm Springs, California ownership, the original AM radio was rebuilt with FM internals, the clock rebuilt, all fluids recently changed, new heat shield installed under the intake manifold, new 160 degree thermostat and gasket, valve cover gaskets, drive belt, along with, a general tune up completed. This is a beautiful classic Corvette for sale that continues to run brilliantly. A fantastic find for the next lucky owner! Our available model represents 1 of only 1,918 Fuelie's built in in the year 1962. Therefore, finding a model with these credentials is scarce. A ready to enjoy C1 Vette that comes with an original owner's manual and storage car cover. Please feel welcome to call with additional questions of schedule a viewing appointment!
