Beautifully restored Custom Royal Lancer 2-door Hardtop in Jade Metallic and Pearl White! Original, number's matching drivetrain, power steering, power brakes, swivel seats with power adjustment, tinted glass, dual mirrors, courtesy lights, and more! Final year Custom Royal Lancer and not one that is easy to find on the market!
The Dodge Custom Royal Lancer was produced from 1955-1959, and represented the marques top-of-the-line offering. It would only be offered in either 2-door or 4-door hardtop (pillar-less window framing) or convertible form, with three V8 engine options to choose from. Unique features included thick chrome body trim accents and side moldings, dual antennas, special full size hubcaps, Lancer emblems, and padded steering wheel! They had plenty of optional equipment to choose from as well! It would seem the “Forward Look” design created by Virgil Exner would begin to reach its magnificent peak by 1959, as many would agree the Custom Royal Lancer is about as beautiful as styling gets from the 1950's automotive era! Exner's vision brought about outstanding aesthetics and streamlined bodies, not to mention the aero-inspired attributed and tail fins! He was called “The Fin Man” after all! The 1959 Custom Royal Lancer features a curved windshield, chrome eyebrows over the headlights, safety recessed door handles, Flight-Swept rear fins with Jet-Trail tail lamps, and a special colored ribbon speedometer! Only 6,278 two-door hardtops would be produced in 1959, this one representing one of just 1,213 built in the Windsor, Ontario plant!
We are excited to offer this special 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Hardtop finished in factory code correct Jade Metallic/Pearl White over Black patterned cloth & Turquoise vinyl combination interior! It possesses its original 361ci V8 with pushbutton Torqueflite automatic transmission and 2.93:1 axle ratio. It is very nicely optioned with power steering & brakes, swivel front seats with 6-way power adjustment, pushbutton AM radio with rear seat speaker, dual outside mirrors with driver's side remote adjustment, Jiffy Jet foot operated windshield washer, automatic headlight dimmer, all tinted glass, trunk light, electric clock, and dual exhaust tips! One accessory you won't find easily today is the RCA Victor under-dash record player!
This particular example was restored under the care of longtime automotive collector, Albert MacEwen, from the Ontario, Canada area. His passion for cars began early in life and hunting for the cars of his dreams lead to numerous trips to the United States to seek fine examples. He would come to own this car in early 1990's and restored it meticulously over 15 years to superb standards, with completion sometime in around 2009. It would be as it left the showroom and continues to impress all who see it in person today! The presentation of the paint, chrome, fit/finish, body gaps, and entire interior remain in outstanding condition! This Custom Royal Lancer, and two of his other collector cars, would make their way to the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Center, also known as the Historic Vehicle Society of Ontario, to be placed on display after a five year battle to cancer. Their meticulous care would further preserve this Lancer in a perfect climate-controlled museum environment ever since!
It will come with a box of spare parts and unused accessories in the fully finished trunk compartment along with a spare tire and jack tools. In 2015, this special Dodge was invited to be a feature car at the Chrysler Fiat Automobiles (FCA) 90th Anniversary Event celebrating the Windsor, Ontario assembly plant's long history of automobile production! Quite an honor considering it heritage there began in 1925! We expect the story of this Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Hardtop to live on for many years to come! It is being offered to the world for the first time once again after some three decades of private ownership! Don't miss this opportunity as it won't come about again anytime soon!
