Very nice 230SL Pagoda equipped with both tops and 4-speed manual transmission! A splendid driver example that recently came out of 23 years of ownership! Excellent color combination of classic Silver Metallic with Black leather interior! Represents one of only 4,945 built for 1966! Classic car driving experience at its best!
The original Mercedes Benz Pagoda roadsters were all produced with a 2.3L Inline 6 cylinder engine producing a very respectable 150 horsepower! They offered refinements over the earlier 190SL models that aided in their reliability and enjoyment. This included power brakes, mechanical fuel injection, and more horsepower. These exciting 230SL models were made between 1963 thru early 1967, before being replaced by the 250SL that same year. Only 4,945 230SL's were manufactured for the world in 1966 making them rare and harder to find each year!
This late production 1966 Mercedes- Benz 230SL Euro-spec Pagoda roadster comes finished in Silver Metallic (original Light Ivory) with a Black Leather interior. Equipment options include numbers matching 2.3L engine, floor shifted 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes, auxiliary hardtop with garnish moldings, Becker Mexico TR AM/FM radio, passenger vanity mirror, 2-piece hubcaps, heater/defroster system, dual outside mirrors, Bosch Euro-style headlamps, VDO kilometer-spec gauges, and windshield washer.
This cosmetically restored example comes with original, factory appointed equipment showcasing an older repaint that continues to impress. The dash wood appears to have been refinished already in the past, but the majority of the interior seating upholstery, door panels, and dash pad appear to remain original. The heater levers are new, but the wood center console, thresholds rails, and hardware remain original as well. The steering wheel is free of any cracks, and overall, the interior is quite presentable being so original. The exterior stainless trim, emblems, and chrome all survive original and remain in good condition overall. Prior to its arrival, the car received new Firestone radial tires, shocks, fuel pump, shifter housing bushings, and ignition assembly with new tumbler.
Having come from the longtime St. Louis owner of the past 23 years, it was recently serviced by the museum to include fresh tune up that included replacement of all fluids, filters, and new spark plugs. And in October 2020, all new German weave interior floor carpeting was installed along with a brand new Mercedes soft top in black along with all new weather stripping on the top frame and front A-pillars. This is a great opportunity to purchase a world-renowned Mercedes-Benz sports car before they become untouchable to most collectors! This example shows 15,060kms on the odometer, which we believe to be 115,060 kilometers (71,495 miles) from new. Of those, 8,000kms added by the previous owner during his ownership. Many of the later production 280SL pagodas have already gotten to a price point too excessive for most enthusiast's budgets. Be sure to call with any questions and be quick to make your decision. We do not expect this car to last long! Thanks for looking!
