Brockville Museum Exhibit Activations

Drop-in and get hands-on every Tuesday morning in July and August at the Brockville Museum.

Explore the museum exhibits and artifacts in a whole new way with our gallery animators: touch an object, strike a pose, compare more familiar modern tools to museum artifacts, and more. Designed for children visiting with adults, these Tuesday morning drop-in activities offer a unique kid-friendly museum-going experience. Included with admission by donation and a great compliment to the museum’s always available Discovery Pack.

July 4 & August 15:
Draw like Frederick Lock
Frederick Lock used pastels on dark paper to create expressive portraits of Brockville residents. Try your hand at replicating this technique.

July 11 & August 8:
Smarts Artifacts: Then & Now
Can you spot the differences and similarities between artifacts from the Smarts Foundry and modern-day items?
Simple Machines on Display
Simple machines have been used by many different industries in Brockville! Can you spot some examples in the Made in Brockville exhibit? (self-directed)

July 18 & August 29:
The Brockville River Caper
Our museum researcher, A. Historian, has dropped all our archival photos of the St. Lawrence River! Can you help them figure out which ones are older and which ones are newer?

July 25 & August 22:
Photography in Brockville: From Portrait to Selfie
Strike a pose while learning about early photography studios in Brockville and see if you can snap the perfect Victorian portrait.

August 1:
Reflections on the River
Artist Robert Henry Lindsay drew inspiration from the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands. Take in our outdoor exhibit of his paintings and create your very own drawing or poem inspired by Brockville’s waterfront.

No registration required, just drop in and participate. Additivities designed to take about 5-10 minutes depending on engagement level. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults are welcome to participate in the activities with (or without) children – all are welcome!
